An award is one contract. It needs a program to belong to and at least one funding slice (a slice is the pot of money that can be spent in a date range). Everything after that is optional.

3 · First funding slice

Money is released in slices, and each slice is a hard cap for its date range. A one-year contract has a single slice covering the whole contract — that is what the defaults below do.

Slices must sit inside the contract dates and must not overlap each other. If the slices do not add up to the contract total, the award page will say so — that is allowed during set-up, and you add the remaining slices there.
